How many people head to work every day dreading the job they have to do? You know who I’m talking about, because this might even describe you at one point in your life.
It really sucks ‘punching a clock’ and I my overall goal in life is to avoid that trap.
The way I’ve managed to stay away from the darkside is by treating my life — before, during, and after work — like a mission.
Be Your Own Superman (or Woman)
Social media and online marketing are powerful ways to communicate and they open up a hell of a lot of doors. But you know what, online networks are just tools. It’s what inside us that counts.
Seriously, that inner fire is what makes you successful, not 4 or 400,000 Twitter followers. If you can find something that you’re passionate about and make it the center of every day you will see amazing things happen.
I’m living proof.
I started my career in sales and was damn successful at it. So successful that I was on my way to being a sales manager someday, but then something strange and fantastic happened. The phone book publisher I worked for began selling search engine marketing products and my life changed forever.
Once I got a taste of how search worked I was hooked. You’d find me sitting in front of the computer until 3am or reading a stack of books on blogging and search strategy. Seriously, my wife had to drag me away from my office some nights.
The reason I fell so hard for social media and online marketing is because I’ve been fascinated with building relationships as long as I can remember. Online marketing combines two of my passions that are connected to relationship building: social science and technology. I get to learn what motivates people, start conversations, and play with cool tech toys (not bad, right?).
The coolest part of this ‘purpose driven life‘ is that I don’t get locked into thinking about my days in terms of work and play because my work is fun and gives me, well, purpose.
I’m impressed with all the people I meet in different industries and with different goals who are out there chasing their own purpose. People who create things, who build, who make something out of nothing. So cool! Now, how inspired are you feeling?
Here’s to wishing you success in your pursuit…
