Meditations on Social Media Strategy

social-media-meditationYou work too hard.

No joke. Think about this past week and the amount of time you dedicate to tweeting, facebooking, surfing the Web, sending text messages, and before you know it you’re at the end of the day with hardly anything to show for it.

There’s a better way.

Assassinate Your Online Time Suck

Stop wasting time doing things that don’t produce. I’m dead serious on this one because it’s a problem I’ve struggled with. Sometimes I fall back on old habits — wasting time surfing the Web without any clear goal in sight — and end up with a very pissed off concerned wife. The worst part is that these situations are totally avoidable!

My theory on wasting time is that we’re not really sure about what we want and how to achieve our goals, or just fear getting outside our comfort zone enough to make exciting things happen (New businesses, projects, or other ventures).

The best way to get what you want is to stop producing and start eliminating. Eliminate waste. How?

  1. Stop surfing the Web to read your favorite sites and put them all into a reader for easy access
  2. Schedule your blog posts
  3. Invest one hour each evening writing your goals for the next day
  4. Sleep more, but wake up early (first movers don’t wake up at 8am)
  5. Determine what your top ten goals are. Slice that list into your top three most important goals. Attack them with ferocity, passion, and determination.

I’m thinking right now about what my moves will be tomorrow morning and how to start new conversations to move the needle forward on a very specific goal. Life is more fun for me when things move quickly because it forces me to push all the clutter off the table and focus on what really matters.

I hope you do the same…

Wait, before you forget:
