Ham ‘N Eggs SEO: One Page at a Time

by Social Media Commando on June 17, 2010

SEO - Search Engine Optimization can be achieved one page at a time to maximize results.Search engine optimization doesn’t happen overnight — in fact, wouldn’t you agree that it involves lots of ‘sweat equity’?

That doesn’t mean you can’t build a solid SEO infrastructure in about 30 minutes each day!

Seriously, all it takes is a commitment to sit down each morning (or whenever you can make time) to write one solid page for your website. The thing is, consistency is key. It may not seem like you’re making a huge difference in the first few weeks, but after 365 pages in a years time, you’ll be well positioned to rank highly.

Cold Blooded Execution

Just to be clear, execution is the key to SEO success. All the good intentions in the world won’t help you rank on the SERPs.

Assuming you’ve got what it takes to build one page each day, let’s move forward…by taking one step back. Before you run off to build pages optimized for a generic term, head over to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool. Start researching terms relative to your business, brand, cause or interest.

What terms have high enough traffic and relatively low competition?

Optimizing for a phrase like, “Social Media SEO” is more achievable since it’s a bit more focused than just ‘SEO’. One more tip is to consider what your customers, fans and followers search for. What’s the best way to do this?

Ask.

Ask people what topics they search for and validate their answers using tools like Google and the many free resources you can find using a simple online search. So long as you build that one page each day with a focus on a single keyword or phrase, your library will begin to rank eventually.

Stop Checking Google, Please

Please. Stop. Googling. Your. Keywords.

Let me clarify: It takes time to rank organically, especially for highly competitive terms. I don’t mean three hours or 4 weeks — we can be talking three months or more for popular keywords. That’s why it makes sense to optimize for long tail search phrases.

Good luck building those new pages. Keep at it!
