Google just underwent a ‘spring metamorphosis‘ that makes search easier, and that’s good news for you.
What started as universal search has grown into what search veterans like John Battelle describe as an application. In other words, people have been trained to use visual tools to find answers, so Google is responding to this demand.
So…what the hell could this possibly mean for your website, blog or social media profiles?
Build Specific Content — And Label It Correctly!
One of the most important things to recognize is how powerful your profiles and web properties are.
Just commenting on a rising topic using sites like Twitter can result in your message being broadcast in real time results. Then there’s the benefit of getting specific. Think about your business and the products, services or causes you represent. Do you have any videos to share on YouTube? What are the keywords you’re using to label the video for search? Is the video also housed on a page on your own blog?
The reason I ask so many questions is to inspire a little thought as to how you can put your best foot forward on Google — still by far the most powerful search engine.
See, Google lets your website have two links appear in their search results. So by making specific content available on your site, plus YouTube and on the social networks you make it possible to increase the likelihood you can appear on the results page.
Whenever Google improves their results options it’s a good thing for the end user but can make life hell for publishers. You have to think more about your search and social media strategy now to find these relevant audiences, but it’s worth the investment. If your overall traffic falls, but more people with a genuine interest in your products, services or cause come to your pages — that’s good.
Now you can help these visitors find even more cool news and info whether they check in with you via social nets or Google search…
