The Facebook Page Effect

by Social Media Commando on June 8, 2010

The Facebook Page Viral Effect.Facebook pages don’t always ‘go viral’ on their own — sometimes they need a little push. For example, the Fire Tony Hayward page I built over the weekend has 330 fans and counting.

But I didn’t just “set it and forget it.”

To start I created a simple Facebook Ad to share with people across the US who fit a specific demographic, then I let the ad run for a day and a half. By the end of the run there were 250+ fans. However when a person ‘likes’ one of your pages, or better yet leaves a comment, there is an update to their home feed that alerts their followers/friends of that activity. That’s like free advertising.

Even better, it’s more like word of mouth marketing because the message comes from a trusted source. Nothing Earth shattering here, I just wanted to point out there is a nice ‘lift’ from using Facebook ads to help your page get to that ‘viral’ status a little quicker.
