iPhone Journalism: How I’d Manage My Life in the Field

by Social Media Commando on June 29, 2010

iPhone Journalism describes how anyone with an iPhone 4, some apps and a few accessories can create amazing new content.I’m convinced that iPhone journalism is the future of the reporting and content creation business.

You already know about killer apps like iMovie that you can download for five bucks on the app store. Creating and editing your own movies on your phone? That’s wild. But there’s even more awesome tools you can use to capture new content anytime and anywhere.

My favorite is called ‘Mikey‘ and it’s an ultra portable microphone that you pop into the bottom connector of your iPhone (or iPod). This means you can record high quality sound with a tool that can fit in your pocket and instantly rig an iPhone into a live mic.

iPhone Journalism is made possible by tools like the Mikey adapter mic.Mikey brings iPhone journalism into a new realm of professionalism because you can use it to record interviews or with your HD video recorder. In other words, you can be walking down the street and capture breaking news as it happens.

You can also use the iPhone and all of the revolutionary apps (most for $0.99 to $4.99) to replace your laptop for the most part — if not entirely. Think about what the mobile journalism hot spot carries: email, camera, HD video camcorder and photo and movie editing software.

What else does an enterprising news maker need?

Well, how about a social media marketing blog or online photojournalism hub to market yourself?

If you’re an online news maven you need to build a brand for yourself, and tools like the iPhone 4 are more than just cool tech toys (yes, really!), they represent your mini media empire, your portable technology link to the universe.

Damn, I shouldn’t be overselling a cell I don’t even own (I’ve still got the 3GS with the iOS software update). But for you tech centric ladies and gentlemen looking for a mobile device, think about getting into bed with AT&T or play the waiting game with Verizon for the new CDMA version.

Your own private media empire is calling, just pick up your iPhone and go for it!
