Blog = Website Traffic, Followers, Fans and Customers?
Sure, that’s the way it can pan out, but often times people get so sidetracked with menial — and meaningless — tasks that they never get around to making their website really perform.
Here’s 11 tips for publishing a blog when you’re crunched for time and ideas:
Blogging Isn’t Always About Divine Inspiration
- Stop Thinking — How often do you get ‘lost in thought’? If you’re
wastingusing lots of otherwise productive time for doodling and idea gathering, you need to chill. Allocate pre-scheduled time to blogging and brainstorming so you don’t burn out. - SEO-ify a Post Pronto — Need to boost your site content in the SERPs? Try following simple rules like setting 300 words as the average post length, including a link and keyword or phrase near the beginning of the post, and adding links every 120 words.
- But Don’t Spam — It’s not worth your time and the engines will punish you.
- Guest Post — Pressed for time? Ask a friend or industry colleague to write an article and promise a link in return.
- Or Just Stop Writing — What’s the purpose of your blog? Customers and fans? Ego? Maybe you should take a day off, or even consider a better use of your time.
- Monetize — What if your blog was profitable? Would you be more inspired to write, or feel more pressured? For some good advice on cashing in, check out ProBlogger.
- Start Thinking Freemium — Got a backlog of posts on your site, or videos on YouTube? Why not repurpose some of this content as a free download, or share a ‘lite’ version of your services? When people want to get more, they pay to ‘upgrade’.
- Videos Rank Too — Start optimizing your videos for search. The more popular your product, service or topic, the more opportunity your videos have to gain an audience.
- Sleep More — Sound simple? Good. Do it and you’ll be more productive almost instantly.
- Listen To Everyone — They have good ideas sometime.
- Write A Top 10 List — Because top 11 lists are too much work.
I hope you like the list. All I really want people to do is think a little different about themselves and their work — and start considering what’s best for you and your audience.
