How to Ditch Your Laptop to Add WordPress Blog Posts

by Social Media Commando on February 9, 2010

Google DroidMy buddy Patrick travels a lot. He’s typically in ten different cities per month but still tries to keep up a respectable presence on his blog.

When Patrick is caught up at the airport, he uses the WordPress App for iPhone to deliver new content. You can send new posts out via the Google Droid App too.

The whole point of publishing a blog is to actively participate in the space you’ve chosen to write about. If posting from your phone makes the process easier, by all means go for it!

WordPress Mobile Words of Wisdom

Just because you’re publishing on-the-go doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice some of the cool features that attract readers to your blog, like pictures. I recommend you check out the WordPress FAQ Page to learn the simple tricks that allow you to upload posts just like you do from your home computer. It’s amazingly simple to keep the curated look and feel of your material no matter where you choose to write.

If you’re a journalist or know one, pass along this post. Using apps like TweetMic and their video camera (like the iPhone recorder on the 3GS), it’s simple to shoot a picture or video to include in a post while they are still ‘on site’.

This is the natural progression of blogging if you think about it.

We already share updates via Twitter, Facebook, etc. while we’re on the go, so why not do the same with our blogs? If you have the time to sit down at the computer to write, that’s great, but try uploading a mobile post to see if it frees you from the sometimes drawn out process of blogging. You may feel more motivated to write something in-the-moment, or just get your words down more quickly because you feel a little positive pressure from your environment.

Bottom Line: Don’t forget to post just because your laptop is in the shop, or you don’t want to fire it up after a grueling day at work.
(Hint: That’s why so many people are installing Posterous on their self-hosted blogs…)
